Well, it seems that researchers decided to put an end to this. Results of a study concluded that size does matter after all.

According to the researchers, the findings show differences in the relationship patterns of short and tall men.

Interestingly, 92.7% of men were taller than their wives in 1986. In 2009, the numbers slightly dropped at 92.2%. There are interesting findings gathered from the data.

My Take On The Study

The study is definitely interesting, if not quite amusing. I mean, let’s face it. There are a lot of successful men who are short. And yes, they have a trophy wife in their arms. So did they make up for their height? Probably they did. And I must say they did a good job! But we can’t deny that there are short successful men that have divorced their trophy wives as well. On the other hand, are tall men luckier? I wouldn’t think so.

Although the findings are interesting, we can’t really rely on them. But there’s one thing that’s for sure. There’s a link between a man’s height and his behavior in a relationship.

So my take on the study is this. It’s just a study!

Now that there are millions of ladies out there with larger size hips, smiling, let me explain the meaning behind this theory. All the hype behind this breaking news is that women with wide hips are less anxious about giving birth than those with tiny bones and bodies.

Yes, you read that right the first time. But, like with every good study done to prove something, this one seems a bit far-fetched as well. In other words, do not get excited and start measuring your hip bones to justify your actions.

The study is based on the theory of obstetrical dilemma. According to Colin Hendrie, professor of human and animal ethology at the University of Leeds in the U.K. and the researcher on the new study, the theory predicates that “humans sacrificed relative ease of childbirth for standing upright”. Therefore, women with wider hips are better for birthing compared to their narrow hipped counterparts.

The study on women 18-26 years of age at the University of Leeds involved measuring the women subjects’ hip bones and asking them questions about their sexual experiences. After reviewing the results of the study, Hendrie and his anthropologist colleagues came to some strange conclusions.

The conclusion of the study was that women with narrower hips “had fewer sexual partners” and that their partners were “within the context of a relationship”.

The study found that women with wider hips (more than 14″ across) had the same amount of committed sex partners compared to women with narrower hips. However, wider-hipped women had more one night stands and sexual hookups than the ladies with the narrow hips.

For example, the researchers measured the distance between each women’s iliac crests, which is the bone protuberances of the hips that you can feel on the front of your body. Critics argue that the distance does not indicate the size of the birth canal.

Well, as one would expect, there were some backlash about the surprising conclusions of the study. Some anthropologists argued that the basis for the study does not make sense.

One critic was adamant that the hip structure the researchers were insisting on using as basis were not relevant to childbirth at all.

Regardless of whether this study’s findings and conclusions hold water or not will always be subject to debate. What is more interesting though is that this study makes for a wonderful topic of discussion when you hangout with your friends or when you go out on dates. I’m sure that fun debates will arise from this oddly interesting study.
